Ultrasonic Range finder is a valuable sensor when long range, high
accuracy and ease of implementation is required. The sensor can be
used to measure the distance of any obstacle within a range of 3cm to 400cm
(4m) with an accuracy of 1cm. The module has all the electronics and the transducers
built on a very dense PCB. The electronics handles everything from 40 KHz generation,
transducer driving, input amplification and processing. Finally a high pulse
whose width is equal to the time required for the sound waves to reach the obstacle
and come back, is sent on the output pin. The module is driven by just one i/o
line. The same act as input and output both. First it is input (from the module
side), so the MCU can issue a small high pulse. This will trigger the module
and the line will become output and the pulse will be sent on it. To read the
pulse the MCU must change the i/o line to input and receive the pulse. With
some basic arithmetic you can calculate the distance to obstacle.
